About APOLLON Hochschule der Gesundheitswirtschaft

APOLLON Hochschule der Gesundheitswirtschaft is a state-recognised private university of applied sciences in Bremen, founded in 2005 and part of the Klett Group. It describes itself as Germany's only distance-learning university dedicated exclusively to the health and social care economy, and holds institutional accreditation from the Wissenschaftsrat (German Science Council) as well as programme accreditation through FIBAA and AHPGS.

The university offers 12 Bachelor's and 14 Master's degree programmes — covering health economics, public health, nursing and care management, psychology, pedagogy, nutrition science, and social work — alongside more than 70 shorter certificate courses. All programmes are delivered via distance learning (Fernstudium), designed around working professionals who balance study with employment.

Approximately 5,000 Bachelor and Master students are currently enrolled, and the university counts more than 4,400 graduates. Study materials (including e-books, audiobooks, and video content) are shipped worldwide or delivered digitally through the APOLLON Online Campus. In-person exams can be taken at examination centres in seven German cities, or internationally at Goethe Institutes, consulates, and recognised German schools.

Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

APOLLON is a private university and charges tuition fees; it is not tuition-free. Monthly fees start from approximately €249 per month for Bachelor programmes (advertised on the official site as of 2025–2026). The MBA Health Economics starts from approximately €420 per month. Discounts of 10% are currently advertised sitewide. Additional concessions apply for apprentices, disabled persons (≥50% GdB), unemployed persons, and Bundeswehr personnel. There is a 4-week free trial period with the option to withdraw at no cost.

Admission requirements

APOLLON accepts applicants with a German Abitur or equivalent school-leaving certificate, and also offers an admission route without Abitur for professionally experienced applicants (beruflich Qualifizierte). No numerus clausus (NC) restrictions apply. Because all programmes are delivered by distance learning and applicants do not physically study in Germany, the standard German student-visa and APS-certificate requirements that apply to on-campus international students may not apply in the same way — prospective international students should clarify residency and visa status directly with the university and the relevant German consulate. Study materials are shipped to EU and most non-EU countries; exams can be taken online or at Goethe Institutes and consulates worldwide.

Living in Bremen

Bremen is a city-state in north-western Germany and Germany's tenth-largest city, known for its mercantile history as a Hanseatic League member. It is home to the University of Bremen, Hochschule Bremen, and several other specialised institutions. The city has a compact, walkable old town (Schnoor and Böttcherstraße) and good rail connections to Hamburg (approx. 1 hour) and other major German cities.

Student life & support

Because APOLLON is a distance-learning university, campus-based student life is limited. The university runs an online campus platform (apollon-campus.de) for digital learning, community, and study-group interaction. In-person events include examinations at regional centres and optional study-abroad programmes — a Winter School at FH Joanneum in Graz, a Summer School at Stradiņš University in Riga, and programmes in Sweden and Denmark via the Swedish HealthCare Academy partnership. An annual Fernstudientag (distance-learning day) event is held for students and prospective applicants.
