What You'll Learn Inside
Here's a taste of the story-driven content you'll find in every chapter.
Sample Dialogue — At the Café
Priya:
Guten Tag! Ich möchte einen Kaffee, bitte.
Hello! I'd like a coffee, please.
Barista:
Gerne! Mit Milch und Zucker?
Sure! With milk and sugar?
Priya:
Nur Milch, bitte. Was kostet das?
Just milk, please. How much is that?
Sample Grammar — Accusative Case
Rule: Only masculine articles change!
der Kaffee → Ich trinke den Kaffee
die Suppe → Ich esse die Suppe (no change)
das Brot → Ich nehme das Brot (no change)
💡 Remember:
In the accusative case, only masculine articles change: der → den, ein → einen. Feminine and neuter stay the same!
Sample Quiz Question
"Ich ___ um 7 Uhr ___." (aufstehen)
Separable verbs split: the prefix goes to the END. "Ich stehe um 7 Uhr auf."
Cultural Tip — du vs Sie
German has two "you" — du (informal, for friends and fellow students) and Sie (formal, for professors, landlords, and officials). Always use Sie in professional and official settings.
💡 When in doubt, use Sie. The other person will offer "du" if they want: "Wir können uns duzen!"
