City Registration (Anmeldung)

Bank Account
Open a German bank account (Sparkasse, N26, or Deutsche Bank). You will need your passport, Meldebescheinigung, and enrollment proof.
Health Insurance
Enroll in statutory health insurance (TK, BARMER, or AOK). Mandatory for university enrollment and residence permit.
Residence Permit
Apply for your residence permit (Aufenthaltserlaubnis) at the Auslanderbehorde. Timeline: 4-8 weeks after application.
SIM Card & Phone
Get a German SIM card for mobile and data. Options include Telekom, O2, Aldi Talk, and Lidl Connect.
