Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

Hochschule Koblenz is a public university in Rheinland-Pfalz. Like other public universities in this federal state, it does not charge tuition fees for either EU or non-EU students for standard consecutive bachelor's and master's programmes. Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) each semester, which covers administration, the semester ticket for local public transport, and the Studierendenwerk social contribution. Rheinland-Pfalz has not introduced non-EU tuition fees (unlike Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria). The exact current Semesterbeitrag amount is set each semester and published by the Studierendenwerk Koblenz; prospective students should verify the current figure on the Studierendenwerk website before enrolling.

Admission requirements

International applicants must hold a higher education entrance qualification recognised under German anabin standards. For bachelor's admission, this typically means a school-leaving certificate equivalent to the German Abitur; holders of qualifications assessed as not directly equivalent (e.g. Indian Class XII from certain boards) may be required to complete a Studienkolleg foundation year or must have completed at least one year of university study in their home country. For master's admission, applicants need a recognised bachelor's degree in a relevant subject. Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants are required to hold an APS certificate (issued by the German Embassy/Consulate) before the student visa can be approved. German-taught programmes generally require proof of German language proficiency at B2 or C1 level (TestDaF, DSH, or equivalent); English-taught programmes require recognised English proficiency evidence. The university accepts applications via the hochschulstart.de portal (uni-assist for some programmes) and via direct application; the foreign educational credentials page at the university website (see source URLs) provides the official guidance for international qualifications.

Application deadlines

Application deadlines are published on the university's Bewerbungsfristen page. As a general guide for public universities in Germany: Winter Semester (October start) — applications typically close 15 July for restricted-admission (NC) programmes and 15 August for open-admission programmes; Summer Semester (April start) — applications typically close 15 January. Exact deadlines for specific programmes and international applicants should be confirmed on the official Hochschule Koblenz admissions pages, as deadlines can vary by programme and intake.

Languages of instruction

The primary language of instruction is German. The RheinAhrCampus Remagen runs a dedicated International Programs section offering courses and activities in English. Some master's programmes are available in English or have English-language components; prospective students should verify individual programme language requirements on the university website. German language courses (Deutschkurse) and workshops are provided by the International Office for enrolled international students.
