Beyond the monthly payment, holders stay in close contact with their sponsor, with some companies offering plant tours, networking events and recruiting programmes. The scholarship runs for one year (September to August of the following year) and is financed half by the federal government and half by the participating companies; it is independent of income and BAfoeG benefits. Selection uses the Abitur grade for applicants and first-semester students, Abitur grade plus previous academic performance (each 50 percent) for bachelor students, and the bachelor grade for master students, alongside personal or family circumstances, civic engagement and awards.
