Kunstakademie Münster (University of Fine Arts Münster) is a small, specialised state university for fine arts and art teacher training located on the Leonardo Campus in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia. Living in Nordrhein-Westfalen

Münster is a university city of approximately 315,000 inhabitants in North Rhine-Westphalia, known for its high density of students, cycling culture, and well-preserved historic centre. It has a strong arts and cultural scene supported by multiple museums, galleries, and the internationally recognised Skulptur Projekte Münster. The city offers a relatively affordable cost of living compared to Frankfurt or Munich, and is well connected by rail to Cologne, Dortmund, and Amsterdam.

Student life & support

Housing in Münster is competitive; the Studierendenwerk Münster manages dormitory rooms, apartments, shared units, and small row houses, including accommodation for students with children and disabilities. Students should apply for accommodation as soon as they receive their admission confirmation. On campus, a Casino cafeteria and Mensa Da Vinci provide daily meals. The semester contribution includes the Deutschland-Semesterticket for public transport throughout Germany. The International Office (contact: Tino Stöveken, [email protected]) supports incoming exchange students with nomination, course selection, health insurance and visa guidance, and the 'My Guide – Gateway to your studies' onboarding resource. Outgoing students can apply for Erasmus+ stipends (deadlines 30 April and 31 October) and DAAD PROMOS grants for non-EU destinations. Around 150 sports activities are available through the university sports programme.
