Kunstakademie Münster (University of Fine Arts Münster) is a small, specialised state university for fine arts and art teacher training located on the Leonardo Campus in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia. What it costs
No tuition fees are charged (public university in North Rhine-Westphalia; NRW does not levy non-EU tuition fees). Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) that includes the Deutschland-Semesterticket for nationwide public transport. Admission requirements
Admission is highly selective and portfolio-based. Applicants must submit a minimum of 20 original artistic works (or at least 3 films/video works if applying exclusively in that medium). Entry qualifications: Abitur or equivalent university entrance qualification, or demonstrated outstanding artistic talent. Applicants from China (PRC), Mongolia, and Vietnam must provide an APS certificate; applicants without APS may be assessed on the basis of outstanding artistic talent. Non-German and non-English qualification documents must be submitted with officially certified translations. The APS requirement does not apply to Indian nationals. Language requirements: B2 for Fine Art; C1 for Teaching programmes. Applications are accepted for the winter semester only (study start 1 October). No direct pathway exists for students without the required language certificate at the time of application.

Annual application round with portfolio submission via the academy's own portal in early spring, followed by the qualifying examination; portfolios are returned/collected after the process (collection days e.g. 11-12 May 2026). Languages of instruction
All degree programmes are taught in German. German language proficiency is required for admission: B2 (DSH-1, TestDaF TDN 3, Goethe B2, telc B2, or DSD II) for the Fine Art programme; C1 (DSH-2, TestDaF TDN 4, Goethe C2, or telc C1 Hochschule) for Teaching degree programmes. No English-taught programmes are offered.

Münster is a university city of approximately 315,000 inhabitants in North Rhine-Westphalia, known for its high density of students, cycling culture, and well-preserved historic centre.
