DAAD Young Ambassador Programme 2027: Applications Close 30 September
TL;DR: DAAD's Regional Office New Delhi appoints Young Ambassadors for a one-year honorary term. You need to be a national of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal or Sri Lanka, to have studied or researched in Germany, and to be under 32 as of 1 January 2027. Applications close 30 September 2026, and late applications are not considered. The mandatory training workshop runs online in November 2026.
This one is not a scholarship, and getting that straight first saves everyone time. The DAAD Young Ambassador Programme is an honorary appointment. There is no stipend and no tuition waiver. It does not fund a degree. What it gives you is a formal association with DAAD, a network across five countries, and a line on your CV that DAAD itself put there.
If you have already studied or done research in Germany and you are back home, or still there, this is one of the most sensible things you can do with a September afternoon.
Who can apply
DAAD India's official announcement of 31 July 2026 sets four conditions, and all four are hard requirements:
- You are a national of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal or Sri Lanka.
- You have studied, or are currently studying or researching, in Germany.
- You are below 32 years of age as of 1 January 2027.
- You are willing and able to attend the Young Ambassadors Training Workshop, held online in November 2026.
DAAD also asks for genuine enthusiasm about promoting Germany as a study and research destination through presentations and events. That is the actual job.
The German experience requirement is broader than people assume. A full master's counts. So does an exchange semester, a DAAD-funded summer school, a research stay or an internship at a German institution. If you spent a semester at TU Dresden three years ago, you qualify.
What the role involves
Young Ambassadors are appointed by the DAAD Regional Office New Delhi for one year, on an honorary basis. In practice you become the person DAAD points to when students in your city want to hear from someone who has actually done it.
That means talks at universities and schools, panel appearances at education fairs, sessions with student groups, and answering the same eleven questions about blocked accounts and APS over and over. If that sounds tiring, it is. It is also the fastest way to build a public profile in the study-abroad space in India.
Why it is worth an unpaid year
Be clear-eyed about the trade. You give time and you get standing.

For anyone planning to apply for a DAAD scholarship later, a PhD position in Germany, or a job in international education, this is a strong signal. For someone with no interest in any of that, it is a year of unpaid volunteering, and that is a fine reason to skip it.
How to apply
Applications go through DAAD's own survey form at daad.de/surveys/135334. The deadline is 30 September 2026 and DAAD states plainly that late applications will not be considered.
The one part worth real effort is explaining what you would actually do with the appointment. "I want to promote Germany" is what everyone writes. "I would run three sessions a semester at engineering colleges in Coimbatore, where almost nobody applies to Germany because nobody there has done it" is a plan. DAAD is selecting for reach and initiative, not gratitude.
