English Proficiency

Alanus Hochschule does not publish a university-wide IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/Cambridge/Duolingo requirement; its official language-requirements document (Sprachnachweise Deutsch, Stand 04.2025) covers German proficiency only, since almost all programmes are taught in German. For several programmes (Kindheitspaedagogik, Kunst-Paedagogik-Therapie, Kunsttherapie, Ph.A.S.E, Architektur MA, Heilpaedagogik, Paedagogik/Waldorfpaedagogik, Lehramt Kunst), the same document also lists 'at least six years of school English, or an equivalent qualification such as university study in English, relevant professional experience, vocational training, a student exchange, or a semester abroad in an English-speaking country' as an accepted form of documentation alongside the German certificate; no numeric test score is attached to this. The one English-taught programme found, the M.A. Eurythmy in English (delivered at Emerson College, Forest Row, UK), requires 'an appropriate level' of English but the official page gives no specific IELTS/TOEFL score.

German Language

Required German level is programme-specific (source: official 'Sprachnachweise Deutsch' overview, effective 04.2025). Bachelor's: TestDaF 3 or equivalent (telc B2, DSH-1, Goethe-Zertifikat B2, OeSD B2, UNIcert II) for Architecture, Fine Arts, Eurythmie and performArt; TestDaF 4 with at least 16 points overall, three sub-scores at level 4 and one at level 3 (or equivalent: telc C1 Hochschule, DSH-2, Goethe-Zertifikat C1, OeSD C1, UNIcert III, DSD II) for Betriebswirtschaftslehre/Nachhaltiges Wirtschaften/Wirtschaft-Gesellschaft-Innovation, Wirtschaft & Schauspiel, Kindheitspaedagogik, Kunst-Paedagogik-Therapie, Kunsttherapie and Ph.A.S.E. Master's: TestDaF 4 (or the same equivalents) for Architecture, Betriebswirtschaftslehre, Heilpaedagogik, Kunsttherapie, Paedagogik/Waldorfpaedagogik and Lehramt Kunst (M.Ed.); TestDaF 3 (or equivalent) for Fine Arts and Eurythmie. At enrolment (Immatrikulation) applicants generally must already show at least A2 German, with the full required certificate due by the start of the 2nd semester (one-year programmes) or 3rd semester (all others); some programmes require B1 or B2 already at enrolment. Exemptions exist for applicants with a German-medium secondary/degree qualification or certain bilingual German school-leaving certificates, and a discretionary waiver can be requested based on at least 3 years of documented work substantially conducted in German.
