Overview
The Germany Scholarship at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz supports gifted and engaged students regardless of their parents' income; a donor contribution of EUR 1,800 per year is doubled by the federal ministry so that scholars receive EUR 3,600 per funding year. Besides very good grades, selection weighs special achievements and prizes, volunteering and social/political engagement, and special personal or family circumstances such as illness, disability, raising children alone, caregiving, employment alongside studies or a migration background. Students from the 2nd semester onwards are selected by faculty committees; first-semester and prospective winter-semester applicants are selected by a central committee. Payment requires enrolment at JGU and the grant does not count against BAfoeG.
