About Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin
Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin (ASH Berlin) is a public university of applied sciences specialising in the fields of Social Work, Health, and Early Childhood Education (known by the German acronym SAGE). It is considered the largest German state university with this thematic focus, offering nine Bachelor's and eleven Master's programmes across its two departments.
The university traces its origins to the Social School for Women founded by Alice Salomon in 1908 and became an accredited Fachhochschule in 1971 following a merger of three institutions. Its single compact campus is located in the Hellersdorf district of East Berlin, with additional facilities on nearby streets. ASH Berlin emphasises diversity, gender mainstreaming, health promotion, and international exchange as core institutional values.
Research and teaching are applied in orientation, with strong links to professional practice in social services, healthcare, and education. The university participates in Erasmus+ and maintains exchange partnerships with institutions in more than 20 countries. Two international Master's programmes are taught in English and Spanish respectively.
