About Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin
Alice Salomon Hochschule Berlin (ASH Berlin) is a public university of applied sciences specialising in the fields of Social Work, Health, and Early Childhood Education (known by the German acronym SAGE). It is considered the largest German state university with this thematic focus, offering nine Bachelor's and eleven Master's programmes across its two departments.
The university traces its origins to the Social School for Women founded by Alice Salomon in 1908 and became an accredited Fachhochschule in 1971 following a merger of three institutions. Its single compact campus is located in the Hellersdorf district of East Berlin, with additional facilities on nearby streets. ASH Berlin emphasises diversity, gender mainstreaming, health promotion, and international exchange as core institutional values.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
No tuition fees for Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes at this public Berlin university. A semester contribution of approximately €323.80 per semester (winter 2026/27 figure) is payable, which includes the studierendenWERK Berlin social fund, student body fee, and a semester ticket valid on all public transport across Germany. Further-education (weiterbildend) Master's programmes may carry separate programme fees - check individual programme pages.
Admission requirements
International applicants (Bildungsausländer) are admitted under a separate quota per the Berlin Higher Education Act. Bachelor's programmes require a school-leaving qualification recognised for university entry in Germany; applicants from India, China, and Vietnam must hold an APS certificate before applying. German-language proficiency is required for German-taught programmes (typically B2/C1 level). The two international Master's programmes accept applicants with a relevant first degree and English proficiency. Application deadlines are 15 July for the winter semester (starting 1 October) and 15 January for the summer semester (starting 1 April). Applicants whose qualifications are not obtained in Germany should contact the Student Service Center or International Office for individual assessment.

How international applicants apply
Direct application via ASH Berlin's own online application portal (hispro/QIS); no uni-assist procedure is documented on ash-berlin.eu. Every programme publishes its own application information PDF and runs its own selection procedure. Applicants with foreign entrance qualifications fall under the 'Bildungsauslaender' quota of the Berlin Higher Education Act; C1 German is mandatory (DSH-2, TestDaF 4x4, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule etc.). Exchange/Erasmus students go through the International Office instead.
Languages of instruction
Primarily German. Two international Master's programmes are taught in English (Master Social Work as Human Rights Profession) and Spanish/English (Master Intercultural Conflict Management). Most Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes require German proficiency.
