About Berufsakademie für IT und Wirtschaft Oldenburg
IBS IT & Business School Oldenburg (Berufsakademie für IT und Wirtschaft Oldenburg) is a state-recognised dual-study institution founded in 2003 in Oldenburg, Lower Saxony. It was established in cooperation with the regional business community and the Oldenburg IT research institute OFFIS, and holds FIBAA programme accreditation for both its bachelor degrees, which it exceeded in 15 criteria at its last re-accreditation.
The school offers exactly two programmes - a dual Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration (BWL) and a dual Bachelor of Science in Business Information Technology (Wirtschaftsinformatik) - each running seven semesters (3.5 years) and combining 10-week academic phases with practical phases in a partner company. Graduates receive both a state-recognised bachelor degree and an IHK vocational qualification simultaneously.
With approximately 200 enrolled students, around 50 graduates per year, and more than 550 alumni, IBS is a small, specialised institution. Admission requires a Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (Abitur or Fachhochschulreife), an English language proficiency of at least B2, and a signed study-and-training contract with one of the institution's roughly 50 regional partner companies - the company, not the student, initiates enrolment.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
No tuition fees are charged. Students receive a vocational training salary (Ausbildungsvergütung) from their partner company from day one. No semester contribution amount is published on the official site.
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (Abitur or Fachhochschulreife) or recognised equivalent, demonstrate English proficiency at B2 level, and secure a study-and-training contract with an IBS partner company before the institution will enrol them. Applications are submitted directly to partner companies, not to IBS. Study start is 1 August each year; applying approximately one year in advance is recommended. APS certificate is not required by IBS directly, but Indian/Chinese/Vietnamese applicants will need APS for their subsequent student visa application. International applicants are accepted; an internationalization officer (Dr. Holger Becker, [email protected]) is on staff.
Application deadlines
Study start is 1 August each year. IBS recommends beginning the application process approximately one year before the intended start date; later applications are possible but competitive.
How international applicants apply
dual model via partner company - candidates apply directly to IBS partner companies for open dual-study places; after the company concludes the combined study-and-training contract (Studien- und Ausbildungsvertrag) the company enrolls the student at IBS and handles all formalities. uni-assist is not used or documented anywhere on the official site.

Living in Oldenburg
Oldenburg is a mid-sized city of approximately 175,000 inhabitants in Lower Saxony, north-west Germany. It is a regional centre for IT and technology (home to OFFIS research institute and a University of Applied Sciences), has a lively student scene, and benefits from proximity to Bremen (30 km) and Hamburg (150 km). Cost of living is moderate by German standards.
Student life & support
Student life at IBS is shaped by the dual-study rhythm: academic phases alternate with company placements, meaning most students also hold employment contracts. The alumni association organises cross-cohort social events including the traditional annual Kohltour and networking evenings (e.g. at the Oldenburg Computer Museum). The institution runs a European Summer School programme supporting international exposure. Class sizes are small, fostering close contact between students and academic staff.
