About Evangelische Hochschule Dresden
Evangelische Hochschule Dresden (EHS Dresden) is a state-recognised, church-affiliated University of Applied Sciences founded in 1991 under the patronage of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony. It specialises in social work, education, nursing, and theology — offering programmes in Social Work, Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Protestant Religious and Community Pedagogy, Social Management, and Counselling in Diversity Contexts.
The institution operates on a small scale with approximately 826 students (WS 2024/25) across two campuses: the main campus in Dresden (Dürerstraße 25) and a satellite campus in Moritzburg. This size enables small group teaching, personalised mentoring, and close faculty-student contact — characteristics the EHS explicitly emphasises in its profile.
A Protestant mission is central to EHS Dresden's identity: theological and ethical content is integrated across all programmes, and students of all faiths are admitted, provided they show openness to this orientation. The institution is a signatory of the Weltoffene Hochschulen initiative against xenophobia and has an active DAAD-funded FIT Project supporting international students from application through labour-market entry.

Living in Sachsen
Dresden, capital of the state of Sachsen (Saxony), is a mid-sized city of approximately 570,000 known for its Baroque architecture, the Semperoper opera house, and world-class museums. Student living costs are 30–40% lower than in western German cities; shared-flat rents average around €332/month including utilities. The city sits on the Elbe river and borders the Saxon Switzerland National Park, offering extensive outdoor recreation alongside a thriving cultural scene.
Student life & support
EHS Dresden's small size fosters a close-knit campus community. The International Office runs a dedicated integration programme (FIT Project, DAAD-funded) that spans a two-week preparatory course, academic writing support, and cultural activities. The ehs international student group organises regular social and cultural events. STIBET stipends and a €1,000 DAAD Prize are available for outstanding international students. The Germany-wide semester ticket is included in the semester contribution, covering public transport nationally.
