Admissions & fees

What it costs

HMU is a private university; all programmes charge tuition fees. Human Medicine (Staatsexamen, 12 semesters + 3 months): €1,500/month for semesters 1-10 (Sections 1 and 2) and €300/month for the practical year (Section 3, ~15 months); total approximately €90,000 + €4,500. One-time enrolment fee €100; application fee €500 per cycle. Biomedicine (B.Sc.): approximately €625/month. Medical Education (B.A., part-time): €450/month (total ~€21,600 over 48 months). There is no semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) in the public-university sense - fees are continuous monthly payments. Brandenburg state does not charge non-EU surcharges at private institutions; HMU fees apply equally regardless of nationality.

Admission requirements

Admission is NC-free (no numerus clausus) for all programmes including Human Medicine. Applicants for the Staatsexamen (Medicine) must pass a two-stage internal selection procedure: (1) a 90-minute written science test in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics (25% weight), and (2) a 20-minute individual video interview assessing motivation, social competency, and healthcare experience (75% weight). External TMS test results are not accepted. Intake dates are 1 April (summer) and 1 October (winter). For Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants, an APS certificate is required before applying for a student visa, but the university's own admission process does not reference APS directly - applicants must obtain it separately. Language of instruction is German; C1/TestDaF TDN 4 proficiency is expected for academic study. Contact the International Office for non-EU specific requirements.

Application deadlines

No fixed published deadlines on the official site. Medicine selection assessments are held on set dates (e.g. 2 July, 3 July, 6 August, 7 August 2026 for WS2026/27). Study places are offered for the next available semester depending on capacity. Prospective applicants should apply as early as possible and check current dates at health-and-medical-university.de.

How international applicants apply

VPD required alongside direct application: applications themselves run through HMU's own online portal (four steps: create contact data, upload CV/motivation letter/certificates, admission interview, study contract and enrolment) with no deadlines - rolling admissions all year. However, per the university's 'Internationaler Abschluss - Vorprüfungsdokumentation von uni-assist' guidance, ALL applicants to bachelor or state-examination programmes whose higher-education entrance qualification was not obtained in the German school system, ALL master's applicants whose prior degree was earned outside Germany, and International Baccalaureate holders must first obtain a VPD directly from uni-assist before applying; the uni-assist request alone is not an application and processing can take up to six weeks. uni-assist fees paid can be offset against the enrolment fee once admitted.

Languages of instruction

Primarily German-taught. Human Medicine and most health programmes are taught in German. Website is bilingual (German/English); specific English-taught programmes not listed on official site.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
