Tuition & fees
Ostfalia charges no tuition fees for any student category, including non-EU/EEA international students. Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) only: approximately €472.80 per semester at the Wolfenbüttel, Wolfsburg, and Suderburg campuses (breakdown: €75 administration + €150 student services + €21 student union + €226.80 Germany-wide semester ticket); approximately €434.80 at Salzgitter. Continuing education and online-only programmes pay a reduced rate without the semester ticket (€246 or €208 depending on campus).
Admission requirements
International applicants for bachelor's programmes apply via the uni-assist platform. Master's applicants apply directly through Ostfalia's online portal (cmo.ostfalia.de). Applicants must hold a recognised university entrance qualification. German language proficiency is required for German-taught programmes; Ostfalia accepts TestDaF and telc Deutsch certificates among others, with the required level specified per programme in a downloadable PDF on the admissions page. Applicants from India, China, and Vietnam must submit a valid APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate — the university advises early APS applications due to processing times. Wolfenbüttel, the main campus city, is a small historic town of approximately 53,000 residents situated 12 km south of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony. It is known for its well-preserved half-timbered architecture and is home to the Herzog August Bibliothek, one of Europe's most important early-modern research libraries. Braunschweig, the nearest large city, offers a full range of urban amenities, cultural venues, and transport links including direct rail connections to Hanover and Berlin. The Wolfsburg campus sits in the home city of Volkswagen AG, offering strong industry proximity for automotive and engineering students.
Student life & support
The International Student Office (within the International Relations Office, located on the Wolfenbüttel campus) provides integration support for incoming international students, including the 'FYI – For Your Integration' programme. The university language centre offers German-language courses and other foreign-language preparation. Student housing in Wolfenbüttel and at other campuses is available through the Studentenwerk Braunschweig, which manages dormitories in the region; early application is advisable.
