Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

As a public university in Niedersachsen, Jade Hochschule does not charge tuition fees for standard bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes. Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of approximately €434.80 per semester for on-campus programmes at Wilhelmshaven and Oldenburg (covering student services €118, student council €15, semester transport ticket €226.80, and administration €75). Online bachelor's programmes carry a lower semester contribution of €208 plus module-based media fees. Niedersachsen does not impose an additional non-EU tuition surcharge (unlike Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria).

Admission requirements

International applicants with non-German qualifications apply through uni-assist (uni-assist.de); the document review process takes at least 6 weeks, with the full review period typically 8–10 weeks. Applicants must submit certified translated school or university transcripts, a German language proficiency certificate at the level required by the target programme, a CV, passport copy, and proof of any required preparatory course. Whether direct bachelor's admission or a Studienkolleg preparatory year is required depends on the country and institution of the prior qualification — applicants are directed to the DAAD anabin database to check their qualification's recognition status. For Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants an APS certificate is required before the university can issue an admission letter (this is a standard German requirement; Jade Hochschule's own pages do not explicitly address it, but it applies under German consulate rules). German language requirements vary by programme; specific levels (B1–C1/TestDaF) are listed per programme in the course catalogue.

Application deadlines

International applicants with foreign qualifications: Winter Semester — 1 April to 15 June (restricted/NC programmes) or 1 April to 15 August (open-admission programmes); Summer Semester — 1 October to 15 December (restricted) or 1 October to 15 February (open). Due to the uni-assist processing time of 8–10 weeks, early application is strongly advised. Domestic (German Abitur) applicants: Winter — 1 June to 15 September (open) or 1 June to 15 July (restricted); Summer — 1 December to 15 March (open) or 1 December to 15 January (restricted).

Languages of instruction

The majority of programmes are taught in German; German language proficiency is required for most degree programmes, with the required level varying by programme. A growing number of English-taught or English-track programmes exist, particularly at master's level. The International Office also offers courses in German, English, Spanish, French, and Chinese for students.

Living in Niedersachsen

Jade Hochschule spans three distinct cities in northwestern Germany. Wilhelmshaven is a mid-sized coastal city on the North Sea with an affordable cost of living and a relaxed harbour atmosphere. Oldenburg is a vibrant university city (population ~170,000) with a lively cultural scene, cycling-friendly layout, and a city-centre campus. Elsfleth is a small historic town on the river Weser in the Wesermarsch district, suited to students drawn to the maritime sector.

Student life & support

Each campus has an International Office presence (Wilhelmshaven, Oldenburg, and Elsfleth each have local IO contact points). The International Office — reachable at [email protected] — provides advising for incoming full-degree and exchange students, assists with housing search, coordinates scholarship information, and runs intercultural training. German language courses and preparation programmes (DSH exam preparation) are offered on campus. The semester transport ticket included in the semester contribution covers regional public transport. Student housing is available through local student services organisations (Studentenwerk); on-campus or affiliated dormitory options exist at each location.
