Living in the city

Bingen am Rhein is a small city of approximately 26,000 inhabitants situated at the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe rivers in Rhineland-Palatinate, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The region is known for its wine culture, medieval castles, and scenic river landscape. Frankfurt am Main is around 60–70 km to the north-east, accessible by regional rail in roughly an hour, providing easy access to an international airport and major urban amenities.

Student life & support

The International Office (located in Building 5, offices 319 and 305) provides personal support to incoming students and runs a buddy programme pairing new international students with local peers. The university works with regional housing providers; students are advised to contact the International Office or the Studierendenwerk Mainz for accommodation options, as on-campus student halls are limited in a city of this size. German-language support is available for international students wishing to improve their proficiency alongside their studies. The student parliament (StuPa) and general student committee (AStA) organise campus activities and represent student interests.
