About Technische Hochschule Lübeck
Technische Hochschule Lübeck (TH Lübeck) is a University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule/HAW) located in Lübeck, Schleswig-Holstein. It is organised into four faculties — Applied Natural Sciences, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and Mechanical Engineering and Business — and offers 43 degree programmes across bachelor's, master's, double-degree, online, and cooperative-study formats, making it the most diverse higher-education provider in the city of Lübeck.
The university's educational approach is explicitly practice-oriented: all professors are required to have professional experience outside academia, and programmes integrate company partnerships, laboratory work, and applied research from the first semester. TH Lübeck also operates a doctoral centre (Promotionszentrum) for postgraduate research in cooperation with research universities.
For international students, TH Lübeck offers five English-taught International Tracks at bachelor's level, a long-running German-American double-degree programme with Milwaukee School of Engineering (USA), and an International Office that provides dedicated support from application through to career entry after graduation.

Admissions & costs
Tuition & fees
TH Lübeck charges no tuition fees for bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes — this applies to both EU and non-EU international students. Schleswig-Holstein does not levy the additional non-EU semester fee that Baden-Württemberg introduced. Students pay only a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) covering student services and the semester ticket for public transport; the exact current amount is not published on the university's public pages and should be confirmed directly with the Studienbüro.
Admission requirements
International applicants must hold a qualification recognised for university admission in Germany (verified via anabin database). For Indian applicants, an APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) is required before applying; the same applies to applicants from China and Vietnam. Applicants whose school qualification is not directly recognised may need to attend the Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein (HAW Kiel) before applying to a bachelor's programme. German-taught programmes require at minimum German B2 (TestDaF, DSH, Goethe, or equivalent); the five English-taught International Tracks accept English-language applicants. Master's applicants must hold a relevant recognised bachelor's degree. Applications for degree-seeking international students are handled by the International Office; the contact for incoming degree-seeking students is [email protected].
Application deadlines
Specific application deadlines are not published on the university's publicly accessible web pages. International applicants should contact the International Office directly at [email protected] for current intake deadlines. Typically, German universities of applied sciences accept applications for the winter semester (October start) until July, and for the summer semester (April start) until January, but TH Lübeck's exact dates must be verified officially.
Languages of instruction
The majority of programmes are taught in German. Five bachelor's programmes are available as English-taught International Tracks: Computer Science/Software Engineering (B.Sc.), Information Technology and Design (B.Sc.), Civil Engineering (B.Eng.), Environmental Engineering (B.Sc.), and Business Administration and Engineering (B.Sc.). A new bilingual (German/English) bachelor's in Electrical Engineering for international students is under development (KIS project, launching from October 2025). The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers German courses at all CEFR levels (A1 through C2) and technical English modules. Preparatory German for prospective students is offered via the Studienkolleg Schleswig-Holstein at HAW Kiel.

Living in Schleswig-Holstein
Lübeck is a UNESCO World Heritage city of approximately 220,000 inhabitants in Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany, about 60 km north-east of Hamburg. The city is known for its well-preserved Hanseatic brick-Gothic old town (Altstadt), the historic Holstentor gate, and as the birthplace of the writer Thomas Mann. Lübeck has a lower cost of living than Hamburg and offers good rail connections to Hamburg (approximately 45 minutes) and to the Baltic coast.
Student life & support
The International Office coordinates Welcome Weeks for newly arriving international students, including orientation, housing guidance, and social integration events through its Intercultural Hub. Students seeking accommodation are guided to options in Lübeck; on-campus dormitory details are handled via the Studienbüro and local student-services organisation. The Language Centre provides free German language courses at all CEFR levels for enrolled students, and English-language technical courses are integrated in several programmes. The International Office holds open office hours (Monday and Wednesday, 09:00–11:30) and offers dedicated support from arrival through to career entry, including networking events to connect international graduates with German employers.
