Living in Hamburg

Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and a major port, media, and technology hub with a metropolitan population of around 1.8 million. TUHH is located in the Harburg district on the southern bank of the Elbe, approximately 15 minutes by S-Bahn from Hamburg city centre. The city offers a high quality of life, a large international community, a vibrant cultural scene, and strong links to industries such as aerospace (Airbus), logistics, renewable energy, and the digital economy - all fields closely aligned with TUHH's engineering focus.

Student life & support

The International Office's Incoming and Integration Services runs Welcome Weeks at the start of each semester, offering orientation events, city exploration activities, and administrative guidance (e.g., address registration, residence permit procedures). The Campus International programme provides intercultural workshops, Language Cafés, language tandem partnerships, and the Art & Culture Lab throughout the semester. German language courses are available on campus. Scholarship advising (including DAAD funding) is provided by the International Office. Student tutors are reachable via [email protected]. Housing is organised via the Studierendenwerk Hamburg, the regional student services organisation; applicants are advised to apply for a place in student halls early due to high demand in Hamburg.
