About Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (jetzt: RPTU)

The Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) is a public research university formed on 1 January 2023 through the merger of the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern and the Landau campus of the former University of Koblenz-Landau. It operates across two campuses in Kaiserslautern and Landau in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz), Germany. As of winter semester 2025/26, the university enrolls approximately 16,120 students and employs around 4,000 staff, including 298 professors and junior professors.

RPTU offers more than 160 degree programmes spanning engineering, natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, economics, social sciences, humanities, and teacher education. The Kaiserslautern campus is the primary location for STEM-focused programmes, while Landau concentrates on social sciences, education, and environmental sciences. The university holds 5 Collaborative Research Centres (Sonderforschungsbereiche), 9 active ERC Grants, and attracts approximately €98 million in annual third-party research funding, reflecting its strong research profile.

Of the 16,120 enrolled students, 3,195 are international, drawn from over 120 countries. The university is a member of no formal alliance equivalent to TU9, but operates as Rhineland-Palatinate's only technical university and positions itself strongly in applied and fundamental research in STEM fields. The International Affairs Department (Referat Internationale Angelegenheiten) supports international students and researchers at both campuses.
