Living in Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern is a mid-sized city of approximately 98,000 residents in the Palatinate (Pfalz) region of Rhineland-Palatinate, situated at the edge of the Palatinate Forest (Pfälzer Wald), Germany's largest contiguous forest and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The city is predominantly shaped by the university and technology sector; RPTU's presence makes students a significant share of the local population, contributing to an active and affordable student environment. Kaiserslautern has good rail connections to Mannheim, Saarbrücken, and Frankfurt.

Student life & support

The Studierendenwerk Kaiserslautern manages approximately 2,040 student dormitory places in residential facilities in and around Kaiserslautern; applications are made online at www.studwerk-kl.de. A room-matching service connects students with private landlords; additional listings appear on platforms such as WG-gesucht.de. The university offers sport, health, and wellness programmes through a dedicated campus sports office. Cultural events including concerts, university balls, and summer festivals are held each semester. German language preparation and DSH courses are available on campus, including intensive courses for prospective students. The International Affairs Department provides support before, during, and after studies, including orientation for incoming international students. Student Service Centers (StudierendenServiceCenter) operate at both campuses with walk-in and phone consultation hours.
