About Berliner Hochschule für Technik
Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) is one of Germany's largest state universities of applied sciences, located in the capital city of Berlin. It was founded in 1971 as the Technische Fachhochschule Berlin (TFH) through the merger of several engineering academies. The institution was known as Beuth Hochschule für Technik (Beuth University of Applied Sciences) from 2009 until 1 October 2021, when it adopted its current name.
The university focuses on engineering, natural sciences, applied sciences and related fields, offering more than 70 consecutive Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes, including online and distance-learning options. As a university of applied sciences (Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften), BHT emphasises practice-oriented teaching with strong links to industry.
BHT is organised into departments rather than faculties and, as of June 2025, enrolled 11,640 students, of whom 2,231 (about 19%) were international.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
No tuition fees are charged for Bachelor's and consecutive Master's programmes. All students pay a semester contribution of €358.30 per semester (enrolment/re-registration €50.00, student welfare contribution €85.00, student body contribution €11.50, semester transport ticket €208.80, social fund €3.00). The semester ticket is not available to online/distance-learning (FSI) students. No separate fee for non-EU international students was published.
Admission requirements
International degree applicants apply through uni-assist (the University Application Service for International Students) and, depending on the programme, also via hochschulstart.de or the BHT applicant portal. Applicants need a recognised higher-education entrance qualification. German-taught programmes typically require proof of German proficiency (e.g. DSH/TestDaF), while English-taught programmes require evidence of English proficiency. Applicants whose prior qualification is from India, China or Vietnam must additionally obtain an APS certificate, which is also required for the German student visa. For winter semester 2026/27: Bachelor's programmes with NC restriction 04.05.2026-15.07.2026 (uni-assist submissions until 26.06.2026); unrestricted Bachelor's programmes and higher semesters 04.05.2026-31.08.2026; restricted Master's programmes 04.05.2026-15.06.2026; unrestricted Master's programmes and higher semesters 04.05.2026-31.08.2026. The winter semester runs 1 October-31 March and the summer semester 1 April-30 September; separate summer-intake dates were not published on the pages reviewed.
How international applicants apply
uni-assist mandatory for all applicants whose higher-education entrance qualification was earned abroad (incl. Studienkolleg graduates): register at My assist, upload documents digitally (no certified copies currently required), uni-assist checks and forwards the application to BHT. NC-restricted bachelor programmes additionally require registration at hochschulstart.de (DoSV; BID/BAN entered at uni-assist); admission-free programmes and higher-semester applications run through uni-assist only. International applicants may submit only ONE bachelor application per semester and cannot use waiting semesters; uni-assist processing fees apply.
Languages of instruction
Primarily German-taught. A number of fully English-taught Master's programmes are available, including M.Sc. Data Science, M.Sc. Media Informatics and M.Eng. Information and Communication Engineering, alongside individual courses offered in English.

Student life & support
BHT's Student Counselling and Support Center and Office of Global Engagement assist international students. Free intensive German preparatory courses (up to 3 ECTS) are offered before the semester, plus up to two free German classes per week during the semester (up to 5 ECTS) and a weekly cultural programme of excursions and workshops. Dormitory rooms are available but placement cannot be guaranteed; the semester transport ticket is included in the semester contribution.
