Living in Hamburg

Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city and a major port and media hub, consistently ranked among the world's top 20 most liveable cities. It offers a strong labour market particularly in logistics, aviation, renewable energy, media, IT, and maritime industries. The city has a well-developed public transport network (HVV), a vibrant cultural scene, and a large international community. HAW Hamburg students receive an HVV semester ticket as part of their semester contribution.

Student life & support

HAW Hamburg's International Office, located at Stiftstraße 69, 20099 Hamburg, provides dedicated support for international degree-seeking students. The weBuddy programme pairs incoming international students with current students for orientation support. The Studierendenwerk Hamburg administers student housing (dormitories) across the city; international students are advised to apply early given high demand. German language courses and intercultural programmes are available through the university. The International Office holds drop-in hours Monday and Tuesday 11:00-13:00 and Thursday 14:00-16:00 (Team Outgoings only).
