Campuses & locations

Main Campus Düsseldorf-Bilk

Single unified campus of approximately 130 hectares in the Bilk district of southeast Düsseldorf, housing all five faculties, the University and State Library (ULB), and the university's Botanical Garden.

Living in Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf is the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and one of Germany's major economic and cultural centres, with a population of approximately 650,000. It is known for its fashion industry, international trade fairs (Messe Düsseldorf), a strong Japanese expatriate community, and a vibrant arts scene along the Rhine. The city is well-connected by air (Düsseldorf Airport, the third-busiest in Germany), rail (intercity and high-speed links), and the VRR metropolitan transit network. The cost of living is moderate by German standards; student housing through the Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf is available in several residential areas within commuting distance of the campus.

Student life & support

The Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf manages student housing, canteens, and social counselling services. The HHU International Office coordinates orientation programmes for incoming international students, including 'New at HHU' and 'New in Germany' guides, a language tandem programme, the STIBET Completion of Studies Grant for international students in financial difficulty, and events through the GetConnected@HHU initiative. German language courses at various proficiency levels are offered on campus. The university's Botanical Garden and a range of student clubs and cultural activities contribute to campus life. An advisory service for refugees and a dedicated buddy programme are also available.
