About Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen
Hochschule Albstadt-Sigmaringen (Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences) is a state-funded Fachhochschule in Baden-Württemberg, founded in 1971. It operates across two campuses - Albstadt and Sigmaringen - and enrols approximately 2,700 students across four faculties covering Engineering, Computing, Business Administration, and Life Sciences.

What it costs
Tuition-free for EU/EEA students and recognised refugees. Non-EU/EEA students pay €1,500 per semester in tuition fees (Baden-Württemberg state non-EU fee). All students also pay a semester contribution of approximately €182.70 (includes €80 administration, €88.70 Studierendenwerk, €15 student representation). Total per semester for non-EU students: approximately €1,682.70.
Admission requirements
International applicants from India, China (including Vietnam) must submit an APS certificate as part of the application. All applicants must provide certified copies of secondary school and/or degree certificates with German or English translation, a signed CV, and passport photo (bachelor's applicants). An Orientierungstest (orientation test) documentation is required where applicable. English-taught programmes require proof of English proficiency; German-taught programmes require TestDaF or equivalent German language certificate. Applications are submitted online via the HISinOne portal. Studienkolleg (foundation year) certificate required for applicants whose secondary qualification does not directly qualify for university entry in Germany.
Application deadlines
Winter semester (October start): applications open 1 May, deadline 15 July. Summer semester (April start): applications open 1 November, deadline 15 January. Exchange/incoming students from partner universities: 30 April for winter semester, 30 October for summer semester.
How international applicants apply
Not documented - direct application via the university's own HISinOne portal. The official 'Informationen für ausländische Bewerber' page and the English international-application FAQ describe a two-option route with no mention of uni-assist or VPD: full-degree applicants register online in the HS-AlbSig application portal and upload documents by 15 July for the winter semester / 15 January for the spring semester, then post certified copies of foreign school/degree certificates (original language plus certified translation) after admission; Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian applicants additionally need an APS certificate. Exchange students from partner universities apply through the separate Student Exchange Programme.

Living in Sigmaringen
The university spans two small cities in the Swabian Alb region of Baden-Württemberg. Albstadt (population ~45,000) is an inland industrial town known for textiles and precision engineering. Sigmaringen (population ~17,000) is a historic town on the upper Danube, home to the famous Hohenzollern castle. Both locations offer affordable cost of living and a quieter environment compared to major German university cities, with Stuttgart accessible by train within 1-2 hours.
