About Hochschule Biberach
Hochschule Biberach (HBC) is a university of applied sciences located in Biberach an der Riß, Baden-Württemberg. Founded in 1964 as a state engineering school for construction and formally established as a Fachhochschule in 1971, the institution celebrated 100 years of combined academic education (including its Academy, founded 1984) in 2024. It offers approximately 20 bachelor's and master's programmes with a strong applied-research focus.
The university's academic portfolio spans architecture, civil engineering and project management, business administration (with concentrations in construction, real estate, energy, and international management), pharmaceutical and industrial biotechnology, building and energy systems, and digitalisation and robotics. Tuition & fees
Tuition-free for EU/EEA students at bachelor's and consecutive master's level. Non-EU international students in Baden-Württemberg pay €1,500 per semester in tuition fees (state-wide rule). All students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of approximately €182 per semester, comprising: student services €72, administrative costs €80, student association €20, plus a one-time student ID fee of €10.
Admission requirements
International applicants must have their foreign qualifications officially assessed. Exchange students require a nomination from their home university (partner nomination deadline: 1 May for winter semester, 1 November for summer semester). Degree-seeking non-EU students whose qualifications are not directly recognised must typically attend a Studienkolleg (foundation year). Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants require an APS certificate before applying. The university offers German language courses to support integration. For English-taught programmes, language proficiency in English is required; prospective students should confirm specific IELTS/TOEFL thresholds with the International Office.
Application deadlines
Winter semester (October start): application deadline 15 July. Summer semester (April start): deadline approximately 15 January. Exchange student nominations from partner universities: 1 May (winter), 1 November (summer).

Biberach an der Riß is a small, historically rich town in Upper Swabia, Baden-Württemberg, with a population of around 35,000. It combines a lively weekly market, museums, and the nearby Federsee nature reserve with strong industrial presence — Liebherr and Boehringer Ingelheim are headquartered here, offering students substantial internship and career opportunities. The town has good rail and road connections to Ulm, Stuttgart, and Munich, and is within easy reach of Lake Constance, the Alps, and Castle Neuschwanstein.
Student life & support
The HBC campus has a friendly, close-knit atmosphere. Student life includes university parties, game nights, and a range of sports programmes. The International Office organises an orientation week before each semester and ongoing social and intercultural events for international students. Housing support is available through the International Office. The two campuses are linked by free e-scooters provided by the university.
