International applicants must hold a recognised university entrance qualification from their home country. For degree-seeking students applying from India, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), or Vietnam, the APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate is mandatory before the German student visa can be issued - HNU itself does not issue or waive this requirement, but the German embassy will require it. Applicants whose school-leaving or bachelor's qualification is from a non-H+ institution on the anabin database may need to complete a Studienkolleg foundation year before direct Bachelor's admission. Language requirements vary by programme language track. English-taught programmes generally require IELTS or equivalent proof of English proficiency; German-taught programmes require proof of German proficiency (typically B2/C1 level via TestDaF, DSH, or Goethe certificate). Specific minimum scores per programme are not published in a single location on the official site - applicants should consult the programme page or contact the International Office directly. Applications are submitted via the campus.hnu.de portal.

For incoming exchange students, the application deadline for winter semester 2026/27 is 1 May 2026, with the winter semester beginning in September. Deadlines for degree-seeking international applicants (Bachelor's and Master's) are managed through the campus.hnu.de application portal; specific cut-off dates are not published on the static website pages and should be confirmed directly with the Study Department or International Office.

uni-assist VPD required for applicants whose higher-education entrance qualification was earned abroad. HNU's official international-application page instructs these applicants to register at www.uni-assist.de, upload documents, pay uni-assist fees and obtain the Vorpruefungsdokumentation (VPD); the VPD must have reached HNU by the respective programme application deadline (uni-assist may take up to six weeks). The degree application itself is made directly at HNU through the same portal and deadlines as domestic applicants, plus a EUR 50 non-EU application fee per programme. VPDs issued for other universities are not accepted for master's applications. HNU ('Hochschule Neu-Ulm (HNU)', Bayern) also appears on uni-assist's official member-university list.

German and English. Approximately six Bachelor's programmes are taught entirely in English (including Applied Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Information Management, Data Science Management, Digital Health, Information Management Automotive, Smart Mobility Management). At least eight Master's programmes are fully English-taught (including Advanced Management, Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Health Informatics, Digital Innovation Management, Digital Leadership in Information Management, Digital Transformation and Global Entrepreneurship, Strategic Information Management, Advanced Sales Management and Intelligence). Additional programmes are delivered in German or in bilingual format. A university Language Centre offers German as a Foreign Language alongside five other languages.
