International applicants with non-German qualifications must apply via the uni-assist e.V. portal. Eligibility is determined by the anabin database recognition of the applicant's home institution and school-leaving certificate. Applicants whose qualifications are not directly recognised may need to complete a Studienkolleg preparatory year (FSP). German-taught programmes require a recognised German language certificate demonstrating very good language skills (B2 or higher); the Studienkolleg language course entry level is B1. English-taught master's programmes require documented English proficiency. Applicants from India, China (including Hong Kong and Macau), and Vietnam must submit an APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate confirming academic credential verification before their application can be processed.

Winter semester (October start): 15 June for numerus clausus (NC/restricted) bachelor's and master's programmes; the uni-assist portal remains open until at least 15 July for unrestricted programmes. Summer semester (April start): 30 November of the preceding year for eligible entry into higher semesters and master's programmes.

Used - full processing by uni-assist (application forwarded to HTW Dresden). International applicants with an international higher education entrance qualification apply exclusively via uni-assist e.V. (My assist, online only): uni-assist checks completeness and the formal, subject-related and language admission requirements after receipt of documents and fee; if requirements are fulfilled it forwards the application to HTW Dresden, which issues admission via its own portal. Applicants with a German Abitur or a German Bachelor's degree apply directly via the HTW campus portal instead. uni-assist deadlines: 15 June for the winter semester and 30 November for the summer semester; for restricted programmes international applicants additionally register at dosv.hochschulstart.de before applying at uni-assist. Documents: passport copy, HZB with grades + certified translation, language certificate, prior degrees, APS original for China/India/Vietnam. The Immatrikulationsordnung (Sec. 5 para. 2) mandates that foreign and stateless applicants direct their application to uni-assist e.V., which examines the general admission requirements.

The majority of programmes are taught in German. Two master's programmes are offered entirely in English: International Management and Environmental Engineering. Some programmes use a mixed-language format. German-taught programmes require a recognised German language certificate (typically B2/C1 level); English-taught programmes require equivalent English proficiency documentation.
