Living in Dresden

Dresden is the capital of the federal state of Saxony in eastern Germany, situated on the Elbe River approximately 200 km south of Berlin. Known for its Baroque architecture, world-class museums (Zwinger, Semperoper), and a growing technology and semiconductor sector (dubbed 'Silicon Saxony'), Dresden offers a high quality of life at relatively low cost compared to western German cities. Public transport is well developed and the semester ticket covers regional travel across Saxony.

Student life & support

Student housing and social services are provided by the Studentenwerk Dresden, which operates university dormitories across the city. The semester contribution includes a public transport ticket valid region-wide. HTW Dresden's International Office supports incoming students with orientation, administrative guidance, and integration activities. The university is a certified family-friendly institution. German language courses and integration support are available for international students. Sports and recreational facilities are provided through the Hochschulsport Dresden network.
