About Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten
RWU Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten (University of Applied Sciences) is a public Fachhochschule located in Weingarten, Baden-Württemberg. Founded in 1964 as a State Engineering School in Ravensburg, it relocated to its current campus in Weingarten in 1982 and transitioned to bachelor's and master's degree structures in 2005/2006. It is a member of the Hochschulföderation SüdWest (HfSW) network.
The university offers approximately 37 degree programmes across four faculties - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Social Work/Health/Nursing, and Technology and Management - with a strong emphasis on applied, practice-oriented learning and close industry ties. Around 3,800 students are enrolled, and the university maintains an international contact office in Pune, India.
RWU's campus sits between the Alps, Lake Constance, and the Swabian Alb, with shared recreational facilities (sports hall, swimming pool, tennis courts) alongside the neighbouring PH Weingarten. Admissions & fees
What it costs
No tuition fees for EU/EEA students. Non-EU international students pay €1,500 per semester in tuition fees (Baden-Württemberg state rule, in force since WS 2017/18). Exemption applies if the student holds a German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB). All students also pay a semester contribution of €215 (€224 for first semester), covering administration (€80), student union (€110.50), and student body (€24.50) fees.
Admission requirements
International applicants to German-taught programmes must hold certified German at DSH 2 level or equivalent (TestDaF average TDN 4; Goethe C1). English-taught programmes require TOEFL iBT minimum 70 or IELTS overall band 6.0. Non-EU applicants to German-taught programmes must have their foreign qualifications evaluated by Studienkolleg Konstanz. RWU reserves 8% of study places in each programme for non-EU applicants. For Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants, the APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) is required before the visa stage - check the German Embassy in your country for current requirements. A preparatory semester programme (TAKEoff@RWU, in English) exists for international students entering STEM bachelor's programmes.
Application deadlines
Winter semester: 1 February - 15 April (English-taught master's); 1 May - 15 July (German-taught programmes). Summer semester: 1 September - 31 October (most programmes); 1 December - 15 January (International Project Engineering). Standard closing dates: 15 July (winter) and 15 January (summer).
How international applicants apply
No uni-assist - direct application via the RWU application portal (German-language programmes additionally via hochschulstart.de/DoSV; English-taught programmes via the RWU portal). Non-EU applicants for German-speaking programmes must first obtain recognition and grade conversion of their foreign certificate from the Studienkolleg Konstanz and submit it with the application. 8% of places reserved for non-EU students; non-EU tuition fees (BW) apply. Not on the uni-assist member list.

31 programmes taught in German; 8 programmes taught in English (including bachelor's in E-Mobility and Green Energy, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics, Physical Engineering, and the International Project Engineering variant of Mechanical Engineering).

Living in Weingarten
Weingarten is a small university city in the south of Baden-Württemberg, sharing its student life with the neighbouring city of Ravensburg - together hosting around 8,000 students. The area sits between the Alps, Lake Constance, and the Swabian Alb, offering easy access to outdoor recreation, skiing, and cycling. Ravensburg (5 km) provides a historic old town, shops, and transport links, while Stuttgart and Munich are reachable within 2-2.5 hours by train.
