International applicants must hold a university entrance qualification recognised in Germany (check anabin.kmk.org or use the uni-assist eligibility check). Most applicants apply via uni-assist (www.uni-assist.de). For German-taught programmes, a minimum German level of B2 is required at application stage; C1 (e.g. DSH-2, TestDaF TDN 4, telc C1 Hochschule, or Goethe C2) is required for enrolment. Applications for 2026/27 via uni-assist (international applicants with foreign credentials): Bachelor's programmes with restricted admission (NC): 15 July; Bachelor's programmes without restricted admission: 1 September; Master's programmes: 15 July or 1 September depending on programme (Interior Architecture: 15 June). The Studienkolleg application window for 2026/27 was closed at the time of data collection. Deadlines may vary by academic year - always verify at www.uni-assist.de and the HSRM application portal (bewerbung.hs-rm.de).

Full uni-assist processing: all applicants with foreign certificates apply exclusively via the uni-assist applicant portal (My assist), regardless of nationality; uni-assist evaluates documents and forwards valid applications to HSRM (incl. Studienkolleg applications). Published exceptions for first-semester Bachelor applicants who instead apply directly via HSRM COMPASS: holders of a nationwide-valid certificate-recognition assessment with a German grade average, European Baccalaureate holders, applicants who passed the Feststellungspruefung at a Hesse Studienkolleg (Darmstadt/Frankfurt/Kassel/Marburg), current HSRM students or holders of an HSRM admission letter for the same programme from the previous semester, and higher-semester applicants. The majority of programmes are taught in German. The university's Programme Finder allows filtering by language of instruction; a number of master's programmes are available in English. For German-taught programmes, applicants need at least B2 for application and C1 for enrolment. English-taught programme requirements vary by programme.
