About Hochschule RheinMain
Hochschule RheinMain (HSRM) is a state-run university of applied sciences and arts in Hessen, established in 1971 through the consolidation of several engineering and design schools. It operates across two cities - Wiesbaden and Rüsselsheim am Main - and offers practice-oriented, interdisciplinary programmes across five faculties. As of Summer 2026 the university enrols approximately 12,320 students.
HSRM offers over 70 degree programmes at bachelor's and master's level, including part-time, cooperative, and blended-learning options. The institution emphasises application-oriented research in areas such as renewable energies, logistics and mobility, computer science and engineering, and education and social affairs. It holds partnerships with more than 200 universities worldwide and participates in the Erasmus+ programme.
The International Office organises Welcome Weeks and a Buddy Programme for incoming international students and provides support with housing, visa, and campus orientation at both campus locations.

What it costs
No tuition fees are charged for bachelor's and consecutive master's programmes at this public Hessen state university. All enrolled students pay a semester contribution each term, which covers student body representation, Studierendenwerk (student union) services, administrative costs, liability insurance, legal advice, a cultural ticket, nextbike bike-sharing, and the Deutschlandticket (nationwide public transport pass for students). Hessen does not charge a separate non-EU surcharge (unlike Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria).
Admission requirements
International applicants must hold a university entrance qualification recognised in Germany (check anabin.kmk.org or use the uni-assist eligibility check). Most applicants apply via uni-assist (www.uni-assist.de). For German-taught programmes, a minimum German level of B2 is required at application stage; C1 (e.g. DSH-2, TestDaF TDN 4, telc C1 Hochschule, or Goethe C2) is required for enrolment. Accepted B2 certificates include DSH-1, TestDaF level 3+, Goethe Intermediate B2, and B2 completion certificates from a recognised language school. For English-taught programmes, requirements vary by programme - check individual programme pages. Indian applicants requiring an APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) must obtain it before applying; HSRM does not explicitly mention APS on its website but the APS requirement is a German federal/consulate condition independent of the university. A preparatory programme (Succeed@HSRM) is available for students who need to improve language skills or subject knowledge before entering a degree programme.

Applications for 2026/27 via uni-assist (international applicants with foreign credentials): Bachelor's programmes with restricted admission (NC): 15 July; Bachelor's programmes without restricted admission: 1 September; Master's programmes: 15 July or 1 September depending on programme (Interior Architecture: 15 June). The Studienkolleg application window for 2026/27 was closed at the time of data collection. How international applicants apply
Full uni-assist processing: all applicants with foreign certificates apply exclusively via the uni-assist applicant portal (My assist), regardless of nationality; uni-assist evaluates documents and forwards valid applications to HSRM (incl. Studienkolleg applications). Published exceptions for first-semester Bachelor applicants who instead apply directly via HSRM COMPASS: holders of a nationwide-valid certificate-recognition assessment with a German grade average, European Baccalaureate holders, applicants who passed the Feststellungspruefung at a Hesse Studienkolleg (Darmstadt/Frankfurt/Kassel/Marburg), current HSRM students or holders of an HSRM admission letter for the same programme from the previous semester, and higher-semester applicants. No exceptions for Studienkolleg or first-semester Master applications. Listed as a uni-assist member university.
Languages of instruction
The majority of programmes are taught in German. The university's Programme Finder allows filtering by language of instruction; a number of master's programmes are available in English. For German-taught programmes, applicants need at least B2 for application and C1 for enrolment. English-taught programme requirements vary by programme.

Living in Wiesbaden
Wiesbaden is the state capital of Hessen, located on the Rhine opposite Mainz, with a population of around 280,000. It is known for its 19th-century spa architecture, thermal baths (Kurhaus), and a lively cultural scene. The city is well connected by S-Bahn and regional rail to Frankfurt (approx. 40 minutes), making the wider Rhine-Main metropolitan area easily accessible. Rüsselsheim am Main, HSRM's second campus city, is a mid-sized industrial and business centre approximately 20 km south-west of Frankfurt, with good public transport links across the region.
