Campuses & locations

Schanzenstraße Campus

Main and only campus - Schanzenstraße 28, 51063 Cologne, in the Carlswerk/Schanzenstraße media quarter

Living in Köln

Cologne (Köln) is Germany's fourth-largest city and the cultural and media capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, home to major broadcasters (WDR, RTL, Deutsche Welle), film funds (Film- und Medienstiftung NRW), and one of Germany's largest student populations (~100,000 students across several universities). It has excellent rail connections to Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, and Frankfurt Airport.

Student life & support

The ifs's small cohort model means students work closely together across specialisations on shared film projects, mirroring professional industry practice. The campus hosts professional-grade equipment available for student productions. The school actively promotes diversity and sustainability initiatives and offers integration support, language courses, and access to TH Köln's student services (Studierendenwerk, sports, counselling). Cologne's large international student community and active film festival scene (including the Cologne International Film Festival) complement on-campus life.
