About Technische Hochschule Wildau

Technische Hochschule Wildau (TH Wildau) is a University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule) located in Wildau, Brandenburg, approximately 25 km south-east of Berlin. Founded in 1991 as Technische Fachhochschule Wildau on the site of a historic locomotive manufacturing facility, it was renamed Technische Hochschule Wildau in 2009 under Brandenburg's Higher Education Act. As of Winter Semester 2025/2026 it enrols approximately 3,483 students and employs 83 professors.

The university is organised into two faculties: the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften) and the Faculty of Business, Computer Science, and Law (Wirtschaft, Informatik, Recht). It offers 23 bachelor's and 14 master's programmes, including dual-study and part-time variants, with a strong applied-research focus sustained by roughly €12.8 million in third-party funding and more than 130 active research projects (2025). TH Wildau holds system accreditation (since 2015) and the "Family-Friendly University" audit certificate (since 2009).

Around 25% of students are international, drawn from over 70 countries, and the university maintains partnerships with more than 100 institutions worldwide. The International Office and Language Centre support incoming students through orientation weeks, a buddy programme, preparatory German courses, and DAAD-STIBET scholarship access for degree-seeking international students.

Admissions & costs

Tuition & fees

Brandenburg is a tuition-free federal state for consecutive bachelor's and master's programmes at public universities; TH Wildau charges no tuition fees for standard degree programmes regardless of nationality. Students pay a semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) of €376.80 per semester (Winter Semester 2026/27 figure), which includes the Studentenwerk fee (€80.00), student council fee (€19.00), re-enrolment fee (€51.00), and the Germany Semester Ticket for local and regional public transport (€226.80). Two fee-based master's programmes exist — confirm current fees with the admissions office.

Admission requirements

International applicants apply via uni-assist for most programmes; the uni-assist application window for Winter Semester 2026/27 is 1 May – 15 June 2026. A recognised university-entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) equivalent to the German Abitur is required. German-taught programmes require proof of German language proficiency (typically at least DSH-1 or TestDaF TDN 3 — confirm with the International Office for programme-specific thresholds). English-taught programmes require proof of English proficiency. Applicants from India, China (incl. Hong Kong/Macau), and Vietnam whose prior qualification was issued in one of those countries must submit an APS certificate before the visa application. The university also operates the Wildau Foundation Year for international students who need additional preparation before entering a bachelor's programme.

Application deadlines

Winter Semester (starting October): general tuition-free programmes 1 June – 31 August; Business Administration and European Business Management bachelor's 1 June – 15 July; uni-assist route 1 May – 15 June. Summer Semester deadlines are not published on the main application page — contact the International Office directly.

Languages of instruction

The majority of programmes are taught in German. At least one English-language master's programme (European Business Management) is offered. The Language Centre provides German as a Foreign Language (DaF) courses and preparatory language courses for international students, as well as instruction in English, Spanish, and Italian.

Campuses & locations

Wildau Campus

Single campus at Hochschulring 1, 15745 Wildau, Brandenburg — approximately 25 km south-east of Berlin city centre.

Living in Brandenburg

Wildau is a small town of roughly 10,000 inhabitants in the Dahme-Spreewald district of Brandenburg, about 25 km south-east of central Berlin and directly on the S-Bahn S45 line (approx. 35–40 minutes to Berlin Südkreuz). The town's identity is closely tied to its locomotive-manufacturing heritage and to TH Wildau itself, which makes the university a defining institution of the community. Students benefit from affordable rents compared to Berlin while retaining convenient access to the capital's cultural, professional, and social infrastructure.

Student life & support

TH Wildau offers on-campus student residential options and references student housing in Wildau and the surrounding area. The Studentenwerk provides canteen and cafeteria services (including the HaSi coffee bar in Hall 17) and a range of social services. The university runs a university sports programme (Hochschulsport), a ViNN:Lab makerspace open to students, a library with reading rooms, and a family service office. The International Office runs an orientation week for newly arriving international students, a buddy programme that pairs them with enrolled peers, and mentoring services. The Language Centre offers DaF preparatory courses and language tandem programmes. DAAD-STIBET scholarships are available for international degree students close to completing their studies.
