Admission requirements

Universität Hamburg admits international degree-seeking students into bachelor's/Staatsexamen and master's programs via its online application system (no paper documents are submitted at application stage for bachelor/Staatsexamen; documents are uploaded if requested or upon enrollment). Non-exempted applicants to German-taught programs must prove sufficient German language knowledge by the enrollment deadline; exemptions apply to applicants with a German degree, a German-acquired qualification, or comparable prior study. A bonus-points system applies to non-EU bachelor applicants, incorporating grade conversion and possible bonus points for language skills or academic preparation. Applicants from India, China, and Vietnam should note that German universities and consulates generally require an APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) for admission and the student visa; confirm the exact APS requirement with the University and the responsible APS office before applying.
