Living in Regensburg

Regensburg is a city of approximately 160,000 inhabitants in eastern Bavaria, situated at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers roughly 100 km north-east of Munich. Its medieval old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, making it one of the best-preserved historic city centres in Germany. The city has a well-developed public transport network, a low cost of living relative to Munich, and a lively student culture driven by its roughly 30,000 students across multiple higher-education institutions.

Student life & support

The International Office provides dedicated advising for degree-seeking international students and coordinates orientation programmes. The Welcome Centre is the central point of contact for non-academic questions, offering accommodation assistance (both university-arranged and privately sourced housing), visa and residence permit guidance, and family support services. The university Language Centre (ZSK) offers the Intensive German Language Course (ILC) in eight levels (A1.1-B2.2) in the weeks before each semester, as well as regular semester courses. The student union (Studentenwerk Niederbayern/Oberpfalz) manages affordable canteen (Mensa) facilities and student accommodation on or near campus.
