About Universität Ulm
Universität Ulm is a public research university founded in 1967 through a citizens' initiative, making it the youngest university in Baden-Württemberg. It focuses on STEM and medical disciplines across four faculties - Engineering, Computer Science and Psychology, Mathematics and Economics, and Medicine and Natural Sciences - and currently enrols approximately 10,000 students from more than 100 countries.
The university operates a single compact green campus at the highest altitude of any university campus in Germany, located within Ulm's Science City ecosystem alongside hospitals, technology firms, and research institutes. Third-party research funding amounts to €119.3 million, with strategic research priorities in Quantum Science and Technology, Green Energy, Life Long Health, and Data Science and AI.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
Non-EU/EEA students (third-country nationals) pay €1,500 per semester in tuition fees, introduced by Baden-Württemberg from winter semester 2017/18. EU/EEA students are exempt. Students pursuing a second or further degree pay €650 per semester (teacher-training second degrees are exempt from summer semester 2025). All students also pay semester contribution fees (student union, administration). Re-registration deadlines: 10 February (summer semester) and 10 August (winter semester). Fee-exemption applications must be submitted by 15 January (summer) or 15 July (winter). Continuing-education programmes (School of Advanced Professional Studies, SAPS) are exempt from these fees and pay separate programme-specific tuition.
Admission requirements
Non-EU applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA apply as first-semester foreign applicants. The university explicitly references APS certificates for applicants from India (aps-india.de), China (aps.org.cn), and Vietnam (vietnam.diplo.de), consistent with German national requirements - these certificates are mandatory before a student visa can be issued. Language requirements depend on the programme: German-taught programmes require a recognised German-language certificate (TestDaF, DSH, or equivalent); English-taught programmes require evidence of English proficiency. Bachelor's programmes: 15 July for winter semester (restricted admission); 30 September for winter semester (unrestricted admission); 13 January - 31 March for summer semester (orientation semester). Master's and state-examination deadlines vary by programme; applicants should check with the relevant department or the Studienbuero. Full uni-assist processing for non-EU applicants without German Abitur: 'In diesem Fall ist der Bewerbungsantrag ueber uni-assist zu stellen' - applies to first-semester Bachelor/Staatsexamen applications and Studienkolleg.
