English Proficiency

Accepted English certificates: IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, or a secondary school leaving certificate/university degree obtained in Australia, Cameroon, Canada (except Quebec and New Brunswick), Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, Nigeria, Uganda, UK or USA. Medium-of-instruction certificates are NOT accepted. Proof due by application deadline (15 January / 15 July) via uni-assist. Required levels per subject: B2 CEFR for most English-taught master programmes (e.g. History M.A., History and Culture of the Baltic Sea Region M.A., Biodiversity Ecology and Evolution M.Sc., Bioeconomy M.Sc., Data Science M.Sc., Earth Sciences and Global Change M.Sc., Infection Biology and Immunology M.Sc., Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation M.Sc., Mathematics M.Sc., Medical Physics M.Sc., Physics M.Sc., Psychology M.Sc., Sustainability Geography M.Sc.) and Politics B.A.; B1 for Biomathematics/Mathematics B.Sc., all teaching qualification subjects; A2 for Communication Studies B.A., Landscape Ecology B.Sc., Art History M.A.

German Language

Level depends on subject. C2 (DSH-3, TestDaF TDN5 in all parts, Goethe C2, Feststellungspruefung German exam): Medicine, Dentistry, Communication Studies B.A., German Studies-related subjects, teaching degree German, primary school education, several German philology masters. C1 (DSH-2, DSD II C1, TestDaF TDN4 in all parts, Goethe C2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, OESD C2): Law, Pharmacy, most teaching degrees, Church Music, Protestant Theology, most humanities/social science bachelor programmes, most science bachelor programmes and many masters (incl. Business Administration B.A./B.Sc., Psychology). B2 (DSH-1, TestDaF TDN3 in all parts, Goethe/telc/OESD B2, DSD II B2): Biomathematics, Business Administration B.Sc., Management and Law, Mathematics B.Sc., plus masters Infection Biology and Immunology, Human Biology, Data Science, Medical Physics, Business Administration M.Sc., Biomathematics M.Sc. No German required for six English-taught masters (History and Culture of the Baltic Sea Region, Biodiversity Ecology and Evolution, Earth Sciences and Global Change, Landscape Ecology and Nature Conservation, Mathematics, Physics M.Sc.). At least B1 German must be proven by the application deadline via uni-assist where German is an entry requirement; higher certificates are due at enrolment (EU) or by application deadline for restricted subjects (non-EU). Fee-based DSH preparatory courses available; applications only together with a degree-course application.
