About Deutsche Hochschule für Prävention und Gesundheitsmanagement
The Deutsche Hochschule für Prävention und Gesundheitsmanagement (DHfPG) is a state-recognised private university headquartered on the Sportcampus Saar in Saarbrücken. Founded in 2001 as a private Berufsakademie and elevated to full university status in 2008, it specialises exclusively in dual study programmes at the intersection of sport, fitness, prevention, health management, and nutrition. It is fully self-funded through tuition fees and receives no public subsidies.
The DHfPG offers seven dual bachelor's degree programmes (B.A./B.Sc.) and five master's programmes (M.A./MBA) delivered through a blended format combining distance learning with compact in-person sessions at eleven study centres across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. All bachelor programmes require a concurrent employment contract with a partner company - over 4,300 companies participate - and students receive compensation from the employer during their studies.
The university holds accreditation from AHPGS and institutional recognition from the German Wissenschaftsrat (Science Council). It runs a doctoral preparation programme in partnership with Universität des Saarlandes. Admissions & fees
What it costs
DHfPG is a private institution and charges tuition fees. Bachelor programme fees are approximately €360-€390 per month (standard) or €390-€420 per month (Sport and Movement Therapy), with an increase to the upper figure from 1 July 2026. In the dual model, the partner employer normally covers these fees. Master programme fees are €440 per month, payable by the student; a deferred-payment option is available for DHfPG bachelor graduates (repayment over up to 49 months post-graduation). There is no semester contribution equivalent to a public-university Semesterbeitrag; fees cover all study materials, e-campus access, and exam fees.
Admission requirements
Applicants require a German Hochschulzugangsberechtigung - Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur), Fachhochschulreife, a master craftsperson or technical specialist certificate, or equivalent professional qualification. Crucially, all bachelor applicants must also secure an employment contract with a DHfPG partner company before enrolment, as the programme is dual (ausbildungsintegrierend). Applicants without a traditional entrance qualification may apply as 'beruflich besonders Qualifizierte' (vocationally highly qualified) with a secondary school certificate plus a completed apprenticeship of at least three years; these applications are reviewed twice yearly (January 1 and July 1 deadlines). International applicants whose prior qualifications are from India, China, or Vietnam must present an APS certificate before the German student visa can be issued. No specific language certificate threshold is published on the official site, but all instruction is in German, so B2/C1 German proficiency is practically required. Bachelor registration is possible on a rolling basis; master intake dates should be confirmed directly with the university.
Application deadlines
Bachelor: rolling enrolment - no fixed deadline published. Non-traditional applicants (beruflich besonders Qualifizierte): January 1 (for summer intake) and July 1 (for winter intake). Master: contact the university directly for current intake windows.

Dual model - uni-assist is not used. Application runs through the joint DHfPG/BSA-Akademie studienbewerbung portal; every student simultaneously works with one of 4,300+ cooperating practice companies, so the practical partnership anchors admission. All programmes are German-taught; applications are accepted year-round.

Living in Saarbrücken
Saarbrücken is the state capital of Saarland in south-western Germany, bordering France and Luxembourg. It is a compact university city of roughly 180,000 inhabitants with a strong Franco-German cultural identity. The Universität des Saarlandes, the largest institution in the state, shares the city, and the Sportcampus Saar - where DHfPG is headquartered - is one of Germany's notable sport science hubs. Student life & support
Because DHfPG operates a dual study model, students split their time between compact on-site seminar weeks at their nearest study centre and home-based distance learning. There is no traditional campus student life in the residential sense. Students are simultaneously employed - typically working 32-35 hours per week - and receive monthly compensation (approximately €650-€850 for bachelor students). The e-campus provides online study groups, digital libraries, and academic support. The Deutschlandstipendium (€300/month merit scholarship, co-funded by industry partners) is available to enrolled high-performing students.
