About Evangelische Hochschule Berlin
Evangelische Hochschule Berlin (EHB) is a state-recognised university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) in Berlin, operating as a public-law institution under the sponsorship of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO). It is one of the oldest educational institutions for social professions in Germany, with roots tracing back to 1904.
The university specialises exclusively in the SAGE fields: Social Work, Health and Nursing, Education, and Evangelical Religious Education and Diaconia. It offers approximately 12 bachelor's and master's degree programmes, combining academic rigour with a strong practice orientation characteristic of German universities of applied sciences.
With around 1,700 enrolled students, EHB is a compact specialist institution. It maintains an active international programme through Erasmus+ partnerships and welcomes international degree-seeking students. The university is located in the Zehlendorf district of south-west Berlin.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
No tuition fees are charged for regular degree programmes. A semester contribution (Semesterbeitrag) is payable each semester, comprising: a Sachkostenbeitrag of €90 (€150 for part-time/continuing-education programmes), a social contribution to studierendenWERK Berlin of approximately €85, plus the Deutschlandsemesterticket at approximately €208.80 per semester (WS 2025/26 and SS 2026). There are no additional non-EU tuition surcharges (unlike Baden-Württemberg or Bavaria).
Admission requirements
All programmes are German-taught; international applicants must hold a recognised higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) equivalent to German Abitur or Fachhochschulreife. German language proficiency is mandatory: DSH-2 or DSH-3, or TestDaF TDN 4 in all four sections, or the Feststellungsprüfung from a German Studienkolleg. The EHB does not conduct its own language tests. Admission also includes a personal interview (Bewerbungsgespräch) with a selection committee to assess suitability and motivation. APS certificate is required for applicants from India, China, and Vietnam before applying to any German university. International applicants should contact the International Office for programme-specific guidance.
Application deadlines
Winter Semester (October start): 30 June for applicants who completed their school-leaving qualification before 16 January (Altabiturient*innen); 15 July for recent school-leavers (Neuabiturient*innen). Professionally qualified applicants under §11 BerlHG must apply by 1 April for the winter semester. Summer Semester intake availability varies by programme; check individual programme pages. Applications are submitted via the EHB online application portal.
How international applicants apply
Used (application processed by uni-assist). EHB appears on uni-assist's official member list, and EHB's own international-admission page states that all applicants whose higher education entrance qualification (HZB) was NOT obtained in Germany or at a school under German Abitur regulations - including Studienkolleg graduates with Feststellungsprüfung - must apply via the uni-assist 'My assist' portal; uni-assist reviews documents, forwards valid applications to EHB, and charges processing fees (certified copies only needed later at enrolment). Applicants with a German HZB apply directly to EHB without uni-assist.
Languages of instruction
German is the teaching language for all programmes. No English-taught degree programmes are currently offered. International degree-seeking students require certified German proficiency.
