About Evangelische Hochschule Tabor
Evangelische Hochschule Tabor (EHT) is a state-recognised private Protestant university located in Marburg, Hessen. Founded in 1909 as a deacons' training house (Diakonen- und Brüderhaus TABOR), it received full state accreditation as a Hochschule from the Hessian authorities in 2009, coinciding with its centennial anniversary. The institution is not state-financed and operates through a combination of donations and student tuition fees.
EHT focuses exclusively on theology and social work, offering four Bachelor of Arts programmes: B.A. Evangelische Theologie, B.A. Theologie Sozialraum und Innovation (dual, launched 2023), B.A. Praktische Theologie & Soziale Arbeit, and B.A. Praktische Theologie & Soziale Arbeit (dual, starting WS 2027/28). The dual programmes integrate workplace-based placements with academic study. All programmes are taught in German.
The campus sits on Marburg's Ortenberg hill at Dürerstraße 43, approximately ten minutes' walk from the central railway station. Admissions & fees
What it costs
EHT is a private university and charges tuition fees. From 2026, the fee is €2,400 per semester (equivalent to approximately €400/month) for standard Bachelor's programmes; this rate is fixed for the entire duration of studies. Dual programme students typically have fees covered by their practice-placement employer. A mandatory Deutschland-Ticket semester contribution is charged separately: €208.80/semester (Summer 2026), rising to €226.80/semester from Winter 2026/27. No distinction between EU and non-EU students is indicated on the official site.
Admission requirements
Applicants require a German university entrance qualification (Hochschulreife or equivalent). All non-native German speakers must submit TestDaF TDN 4 or DSH 2. Required documents include: completed application form, passport photo, copies of school-leaving certificates, CV, motivation letter (1-2 pages), proof of involvement in Christian community work, and two references (for in-person programmes). Dual programme applicants must simultaneously secure a placement with an approved partner institution. The application deadline for Winter Semester 2026/27 is 15 July 2026. Living in Marburg
Marburg is a compact university town on the Lahn River in central Hessen, situated between Frankfurt am Main and Kassel. Roughly one quarter of its approximately 77,000 residents are students, giving the city a strongly collegiate character. The old town, with its medieval castle (Landgrafenschloss) and half-timbered buildings, is a 10-15 minute walk uphill from the station. Marburg is home to Philipps-Universität Marburg, one of Germany's oldest Protestant universities, whose libraries and public lectures EHT students can access.
Student life & support
Campus life at EHT is closely tied to its Protestant pietist community ethos. Students participate in shared worship, musical performances, and community events throughout the year. The small size of the institution (a specialist Hochschule) means cohorts are intimate. Marburg's broader student scene - cafés, cultural venues, outdoor activities along the Lahn and in the surrounding Hessian hills - complements the on-campus community. The Germany-wide public transport pass (Deutschland-Ticket) is included in the mandatory semester contribution, making travel across the country affordable.
