Living in Coburg

Coburg is a medium-sized town in Upper Franconia, northern Bavaria, with a population of approximately 41,000. It is known for its well-preserved Renaissance Coburg Fortress (Veste Coburg), the Ehrenburg Palace, and as a former ducal residence. The city hosts the world's second-largest Samba Festival. Living costs are significantly lower than Munich or Frankfurt. Coburg has direct rail connections to Nuremberg (~1 hour) and Munich (~2 hours), making larger cities easily accessible.

Student life & support

The International Office (located on the main Friedrich Streib Campus) supports incoming students with enrolment, accommodation, and dealings with local authorities. A dedicated Housing Office assists students in finding rooms in university-managed halls (506 rooms on the main campus, 106 apartments on the Design Campus) or in private accommodation. The office uses the Studentenwerk Bayern portal for dormitory applications. Campus life includes a canteen and cafeteria across three locations, the CREAPOLIS Makerspace open to all students, a Healthy University programme (psychological counselling, sports, nutrition seminars), and numerous student clubs and initiatives. University sports and professional sports events (HSC Coburg handball, BBC Coburg basketball) are available at student rates.
