Admission is NC-free (no numerus clausus). A German university entrance qualification (Abitur or equivalent) is required. Fluent German language skills are mandatory for all applicants, including international students. Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants must present an APS certificate before applying. No English-taught programmes are available; international applicants must demonstrate German proficiency. Prospective students should contact the institution directly to confirm current entry requirements and any portfolio/aptitude-test obligations common to design programmes.

There is no application deadline: registrations are accepted at any time ('Wir haben keine Anmeldefrist'), followed by the university's own admission procedure with a quick decision. Guidance appointments with programme directors can be booked at either campus.

Direct application to the university itself: registrations are accepted at any time and are followed by the university's own admission procedure - higher education entrance qualification (or qualified vocational training plus three years of practice with an aptitude test), and for Kommunikationsdesign a gestalterische Eignung proven via a free two-day Kompaktseminar or a one-day Eignungsprüfung with a portfolio of ten works. The dual variants additionally require a training contract with a partner company. No uni-assist, no VPD, no hochschulstart.
