Admissions & fees

What it costs

Tuition fees apply to non-EU citizens who do not hold a German higher education qualification or a German permanent residence permit, and to students pursuing a second degree (fee schedule governed by §5 of the university's fee regulations, German-language document). All students pay a semester fee each semester, which includes the Dresden semester ticket. An application processing fee is charged to all applicants. Saxony does not impose the Baden-Württemberg-style general non-EU surcharge, but individual programme tuition fees for the categories above apply - exact amounts should be confirmed directly with the university.

Admission requirements

Admission is based on artistic entrance examinations (Aufnahmeprüfung) specific to each instrument, voice, composition, or pedagogy specialisation - there is no age limit. Bachelor's and state examination programmes start in the winter semester only; master's and Meisterklasse programmes may have summer-semester entry. Non-EU applicants without a German higher education qualification and without a German permanent residence permit are subject to tuition fees in addition to the standard semester fee. APS certificate requirements follow standard German rules: mandatory for applicants whose prior qualification is from India, China, or Vietnam. Language requirements vary by programme; applicants should consult the relevant programme page or contact the Student Secretariat.

Application deadlines

Winter Semester 2026/27: application period 1-31 March 2026; entrance exams 1-12 June 2026. Summer Semester 2027 (master's/Meisterklasse only): application period 1 October - 1 November 2026; exams January 2027. Bachelor's and state examination courses can only begin in the winter semester.

How international applicants apply

Not used. Applications are made exclusively through the university's own online Bewerbungsportal (per Aufnahmeprüfungsordnung: 'online unter Verwendung des Bewerbungssystems der Hochschule'). uni-assist appears only as an informational resource where international applicants can check whether they meet HZB requirements.

Languages of instruction

German is the primary language of instruction. Individual programmes and requirements vary by specialisation; international applicants should confirm language requirements directly with the relevant faculty.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
