Admissions & fees

What it costs

As a public university in Baden-Württemberg, HHN charges no tuition fees for first-degree students from the EU/EEA. Non-EU/EEA students pay an additional fee of €1,500 per semester (introduced by Baden-Württemberg state law). All enrolled students also pay a semester contribution of approximately €159 per semester, which covers student services, administration, and the student union (AStA). Exemptions from the non-EU fee exist under the 2018 state regulation; students should check eligibility at enrolment. Second-degree students pay €650 per semester regardless of nationality.

Admission requirements

International applicants must have a school-leaving or bachelor's certificate recognised as equivalent to the corresponding German qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung or bachelor's degree). Non-German certificates are assessed individually; applicants should check the anabin database for their institution's recognition status. Language proficiency proof is mandatory for most programmes - the specific level and accepted certificates vary by programme and are detailed in HHN's published Language Requirements PDF. Bachelor applications open mid-May for winter semester and mid-November for summer semester; restricted-admission programme deadlines are 15 July (winter) and 15 January (summer). For Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants, the APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) is required before the German student visa can be issued, though HHN's own pages do not explicitly list it - this is a German federal visa requirement applicable to all institutions.

Application deadlines

Winter semester (October start): applications open mid-May; deadline for restricted-admission programmes is 15 July; open-admission enrolment closes end of September. Summer semester (April start): applications open mid-November; deadline for restricted-admission programmes is 15 January; open-admission enrolment closes beginning of March. Applications are submitted via HHN's eCampus portal.

How international applicants apply

Dual: free recognition via Studienkolleg Konstanz OR paid VPD via uni-assist; application itself goes directly to HHN. Hochschule Heilbronn (HHN) appears on uni-assist's official member list with four entries (Bildungscampus, TechCampus, Standort Kuenzelsau, Standort Schwaebisch Hall), and its entries specify the VPD procedure: uni-assist issues a Vorpruefungsdokumentation with which applicants apply directly to the university. HHN's own bachelor application page documents both options for holders of non-German school-leaving certificates: recognition by the Studienkolleg Konstanz (free of charge but slower) or recognition via Uni-Assist (for a fee, faster); without one of these certificate recognitions the application is not considered. The actual programme application then runs through HHN's eCampus / hochschulstart.de.

Languages of instruction

The majority of programmes are taught in German. Several programmes in the Faculty of Business offer a partial or full English-language track: the Bachelor of Engineering in Business Engineering Logistics has an international track entirely in English (summer semester start only); the Master in Business Management (M.Sc.) also has a full English-language international track. Other master's programmes such as Transport and Logistics Management and Entrepreneurship offer approximately half their courses in English. Exchange students are welcomed into all programmes.

Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
