About Katholische Stiftungshochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft

Katholische Stiftungshochschule München (KSH München) is a state-recognised Catholic university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule) in Bavaria, founded in 1971. It specialises in Social Work, Health, Nursing, and Education - fields with strong societal and professional demand. KSH München operates across two campuses: the main campus in Munich's Haidhausen district and a second campus in Benediktbeuern, a historic Baroque monastery town in the Alpine foothills south of Munich. What it costs

KSH München is a state-recognised public-law foundation university in Bavaria. Bavaria introduced a non-EU tuition fee of €3,000 per academic year (€1,500 per semester) from the winter semester 2025/26 for non-EU/non-EEA students at Bavarian state universities. The official website does not publish the exact semester administrative contribution (Semesterbeitrag) amount; applicants should confirm the current fee directly with the Studierendensekretariat. No tuition fees apply for EU/EEA students beyond the semester contribution.

Admission requirements

International applicants must have their foreign academic credentials assessed by uni-assist e.V., which issues a preliminary documentation certificate (VPD); this must be requested at least six weeks before the programme application deadline. Proof of German language proficiency at C1 level (recognised examination) is mandatory. Non-EU applicants must provide citizenship documentation or a valid residence permit. The university offers two specialised programmes for internationally-qualified degree holders: a Social Work bridging programme (IBS) and a Childhood Education programme (BEFAS/BEFAS+). APS certificate (Akademische Prüfstelle) is not listed as a university requirement, but Indian, Chinese, and Vietnamese applicants should verify current APS obligations with the German embassy before applying.

Application deadlines

Application periods vary by programme. The university advises consulting the individual programme detail page for exact deadlines. International applicants using uni-assist must submit their VPD request at least six weeks before the relevant programme deadline.

How international applicants apply

uni-assist VPD procedure. Applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification or a foreign university degree must have their educational credentials pre-checked by uni-assist e.V. before applying: they request a Vorpruefungsdokumentation (VPD) from uni-assist (recommended at least six weeks ahead of the KSH application deadline) and then submit the VPD together with their application documents via the KSH online application portal (bewerbung.ksh-m.de). Application itself stays direct with the Hochschule; all programmes are taught in German and C1-level German proof is required. KSH is listed as a uni-assist member ('Katholische Stiftungsfachhochschule Muenchen (KSH)', VPD participant).

Languages of instruction

All degree programmes are taught in German. A C1-level German language certificate from a recognised examination body is required for admission. No English-taught degree programmes are offered.

The office is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM at the Munich campus. The university participates in over 60 international partner-university networks.
