About Musikakademie der Stadt Kassel "Louis Spohr"
Musikakademie der Stadt Kassel "Louis Spohr" is a state-recognised professional academy (staatlich anerkannte Berufsakademie) located at Karlsplatz 7 in the centre of Kassel, Hessen. It is described as the only state-recognised music academy between Frankfurt-Hannover and Weimar-Ruhr Valley, making it a regionally unique institution for professional music education.
The academy offers an accredited, internationally recognised Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy (IGP - Instrumental-/Gesangspädagogik), combining more than 50% artistic instruction (primary and secondary instruments, chamber music, choir and orchestra) with music pedagogy, musicology, and theory. Twelve specialisation profiles are available, including elementary music education, historical performance practice, ensemble conducting, composition, music theory, and popular music. A pre-college programme (Jungstudium) and a continuing education course in music mediation for kindergartens are also offered.
Approximately 120 students from over 20 nations are taught by around 60 experienced instructors, many of whom are active professional artists. The institution was founded in 1939 through the merger of several Kassel conservatories, received official academy status in 1955, and was renamed to include "Louis Spohr" in 2012 when it also gained independent bachelor-degree authority.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
Tuition-free at this state-recognised institution. Education is eligible for BAföG (German federal student financial aid). No semester non-EU surcharge is mentioned on the official site (the Baden-Württemberg €1,500/semester non-EU fee does not apply here; this is a Hessen institution).
Admission requirements
Admission requires passing an entrance examination (Aufnahmeprüfung). For the Bachelor of Music (IGP) programme, applicants must hold Allgemeine Hochschulreife (general university entrance qualification); exceptions for highly gifted candidates are possible. International applicants must provide certified German language proficiency at minimum B1 (TestDaF TDN 3, Goethe B1, DSH I, or Telc B1). Required application materials include: CV with photo, certified copy of latest school report, language proficiency certificate, and a list of examination pieces to be performed. APS certificate is not listed as a requirement on the official site. Voice applicants must submit a phoniatric evaluation no older than six months.
Application deadlines
Not published in machine-readable form - the Aufnahmeprüfung page loads its content dynamically; prospective students are directed to the academy's Studienberatung and the Termine/Kontaktpersonen page for current dates.
How international applicants apply
Not documented. The official website (Studium, Aufnahmeprüfung and Beratung sections) mentions no uni-assist or VPD process anywhere; admission to the accredited IGP bachelor programme runs through the academy's own Aufnahmeprüfung (entrance examination), consistent with its status as a municipal Berufsakademie of the City of Kassel rather than a state higher-education institution participating in uni-assist.
Languages of instruction
Instruction is primarily in German. International applicants must demonstrate German language proficiency at minimum B1 level (accepted certificates: TestDaF Level 3, Goethe-Zertifikat B1, DSH Level I, or Telc B1).
Entry requirements, intake dates and language levels differ for every degree.
