About Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen
Staatliche Hochschule für Musik Trossingen (State University of Music Trossingen) is a public music conservatory founded in 1946, located in Trossingen, Baden-Württemberg. It is one of 24 state music conservatories in Germany and, with approximately 378 enrolled students (Summer Semester 2023), is among the smaller but highly specialised institutions in the country.

Admissions & fees
What it costs
As a public state university in Baden-Württemberg, the conservatory charges non-EU/EEA international students a tuition fee of €1,500 per semester under the Baden-Württemberg Higher Education Fees Act (LHGebG BW §3), introduced from Winter Semester 2017/18. EU/EEA students and German nationals are generally exempt from this fee. Admission requirements
Admission to all degree programmes requires an entrance audition (künstlerische Eignungsprüfung); academic qualifications alone are not sufficient. Application deadlines
Admission is entrance-exam driven: the application window for the winter semester Aufnahmeprüfung runs from 1 March to 1 April, and for the summer semester of the following year from 1 October to 1 November. Entrance exams are held in person in published windows (for example late May/early June 2027 for WS 2027/28 and mid-January 2028 for SS 2028); only the Master Audio Experience Design exam takes place online.
How international applicants apply
Direct application - uni-assist and hochschulstart are NOT used. Applicants apply online through the conservatory's own HISinOne portal (service.mh-trossingen.de qisserver) and pass the artistic entrance audition (kuenstlerische Eignungspruefung). Foreign applicants additionally submit certified translations of foreign certificates and later prove German at CEFR B2 (per §5 of the Immatrikulationssatzung; B2 must already accompany the application for Gymnasiallehramt, Musik-Paedagogik and the Musicology master; otherwise provable by re-registration into the 3rd subject semester). Applicants without a recognised Abitur can qualify via the Begabtenprüfung (aptitude examination, written German essay plus oral interview). A study-applicant visa based on the entrance-exam invitation may be required; residence permits are issued by Landratsamt Tuttlingen.
Languages of instruction
Instruction is primarily in German. Programmes are structured around practical performance training; international applicants are generally expected to have sufficient German language competence for daily academic interaction.
