Technische Hochschule Aschaffenburg (TH AB) is a university of applied sciences located in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, founded in 1995. TH Aschaffenburg charges no tuition fees for degree-seeking students (including non-EU nationals). A mandatory student services fee of €70 per semester applies to all enrolled students. This is consistent with Bavarian public universities of applied sciences; note that Bavaria introduced a non-EU tuition fee for some institutions from WS 2025/26 — verify the current status directly with the university before advising students. A one-time application/enrolment fee of €80 applies. Applicants with foreign certificates applying via uni-assist additionally pay the uni-assist handling fee (€75 for the first application, €30 for each additional programme).
Admission requirements
International applicants for degree-seeking programmes must submit credentials via uni-assist (VPD preliminary review). Applicants whose prior qualifications were issued in India, China, or Vietnam must hold a valid APS (Akademische Prüfstelle) certificate before applying. German-taught programmes require a minimum B2 German language certificate; the three English-taught programmes require B2 English plus A1 German. Non-EU applicants pay an €80 application fee per programme. Language certificates may be submitted at enrolment if not yet available at the time of application.

Winter semester: German-taught bachelor's programmes 2 May – 15 July; master's programmes 2 May – 15 June to 15 August (varies by programme); Software Design International (English, B.Sc.) 2 – 30 June. Summer semester: most programmes 15 November – 15 January; International Management (M.A., non-EU applicants) 15 – 30 November. Working-professional programmes have extended deadlines; check the university application portal for programme-specific dates.
Languages of instruction
The majority of degree programmes are taught in German, requiring at least B2 German proficiency (TestDaF, DSH, Goethe, ÖSD, telc, or DSD II). Three programmes are explicitly English-taught: Software Design International (B.Sc.) and two master's programmes — International Management (M.A.) and Mercuri (M.A.); these require B2 English plus at least A1 German. A Language Centre is available on campus.

Aschaffenburg is a mid-sized city of approximately 70,000 residents in the south-east of the Frankfurt–Rhine-Main metropolitan region, about 40 km from Frankfurt am Main. The city is known for its Baroque Johannisburg Palace, the Schönbusch English landscape park, and its position on the Main river. Its proximity to Frankfurt gives students access to one of Europe's largest financial and logistics hubs while benefitting from significantly lower living costs than in Frankfurt itself.

The International Office and Career Service ([email protected]) provides incoming international students with support on university admission, accommodation search, dealings with local authorities, and a student Buddy Programme that pairs newcomers with volunteer student guides. A Language Centre on campus offers German language courses. The university estimates monthly living costs of approximately €1,020, including rent (~€410), food (~€200), and health insurance (~€120). Students must demonstrate financial means of €992/month (€11,904/year) for visa and residence permit purposes, typically via a blocked account (Sperrkonto). Scholarships available to international degree students include the Deutschlandstipendium and the annual DAAD Prize (€1,000).
